The Cerebral Posse

The Cerebral Posse was formed in New York City in February 2014. The intention was to explore the issues confronting people with Cerebral Palsy and to apply Tamar and Gregg’s approach to others. The group is dedicated to empowerment through gaining knowledge, dialoguing with experts in the medical and arts communities, and experientially working with their bodies. The New York City posse has become an instigator and a prototype for new Posses around the world.

GET TO KNOW THE POSSES

A Posse is a fly by the seat of your pants, creative, open to all possibilities, boundary crossing, investigative, seeking of unlikely connections and information, the sky’s the limit, kind of group.

A Posse’s aim is to give people living with CP more of what enlivens, informs and makes their lives and bodies move beyond their expectations, to experience new, perhaps undreamed of, possibilities. The Posse allows the individual to move past solitariness and into dialogue about common issues that will transform their lives. Its aim is to empower people living with CP by asking them to both face the music and conduct the orchestra. A Posse recognizes the lack of present options for treatment and the subsequent effect of despair and inertia. A Posse demands access to what’s out there for everybody, creatively envisioning their own next steps. They do this through dialoguing honestly and intimately with each other, and bringing together unlikely bedfellows in the medical and arts communities to join with them as Posse members.

Amrit Otal

Amrit Otal is born and raised in California and is a recent East Coast transplant. She completed her B.A. in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Mass Media from the University of California, Los Angeles and is currently a graduate student at LIM College working toward her MBA in Entrepreneurship and Fashion Management. Amrit was born 3 months premature and has a mild form of cerebral palsy or invisible CP. She feels strongly that children and adults alike have a right to understand their bodies and be in tune with its unique intricacies. She believes open dialogue centering on CP topics is the first step toward giving those with CP and their healthcare providers greater insight on how to maximize and develop their abilities. Other things Amrit feels strongly about include films & television (specifically early 90’s sitcoms and Bollywood), good food, good people, and good shoes. Her future plans include launching her own women’s footwear brand.
